Dealing with Overwhelm
We all know the feeling.
Sleepless nights...
Tension headaches...
The constant worry that you have forgotten to do something.
When you get overwhelmed, it's hard to even do the basic stuff. I had this yesterday when it came to taking out the bins.
I had a mini meltdown. Not because the bins needed taking out.
But because my head was FULL of all the things I needed to do and there was no space for the bins to occupy.
Hilarious that a bin full of food waste could tip me over the edge yet I have performed to over 4000 people on stage before haha!
So let's talk about a proven technique to help you deal with that feeling.
Ask yourself: “What Would This Look Like If It Were Easy?”
This Tim Ferriss-inspired question short-circuits the instinct to overcomplicate.
Overwhelm often comes from stacking unnecessary layers. This question invites simplicity and elegance.
Let’s say you’re worried about some work with a looming deadline.
Your mind might be jumping ahead to all the possible steps, perfection requirements, or what-ifs.
Instead, pause and ask: “What would this look like if it were easy?”
Maybe it means drafting a quick, rough version first and editing later.
Maybe it means emailing someone to clarify expectations, instead of assuming the worst.
Maybe it means using a template instead of building from scratch.
Or even asking for an extension instead of silently stressing.
This question helps you reframe: not how to suffer through it, but how to glide through it.
It doesn’t mean you’re avoiding hard work- it means you’re removing unnecessary friction. Simplifying.
Try this out today and let me know if that dreaded task you have been avoiding, actually becomes a little easier.
